Conference on household over-indebtedness
A European strategy against over-indebtedness – What could be done at the EU level?
12 December 2014
European Economic and Social Committee, Rue Belliard 99,
Room JDE 62, 9. a.m. to 4 p.m.
The European Economic and Social Committee(EESC), the European Consumer Debt Network (ECDN) and the European Financial Inclusion Network (EFIN) are pleased to invite you to the conference on household over-indebtedness that will take place on 12 December 2014 in Brussels.
Over-indebtedness generally arises following an unexpected drop in income. Over the past years, it has significantly grown with the financial crisis and has recently started to encompass middle class people. All the Member States are affected and potentially all economic operators may suffer the financial consequences of over-indebtedness, including businesses, especially SMEs.
This conference will address the following issues
- The need for EU indicators and an EU-wide definition of over-indebtedness.
- A strategy to clean the market from unfair practices and toxic products.
- The development of effective tools to detect and cure debt issues at an early stage.
- A “solution oriented” approach and appropriate curative measures.
Finally, this interactive conference, which will bring together high-level speakers and stakeholders from across the EU, will look into what can be best done at EU level and propose priorities, strategies and an agenda for the years to come.
Please register to the conference here. Deadline for registration: 07/12/2014.
